The department also treats children and teens with eating disorders and other chronic diseases. We provide care for a variety of conditions which range from contraception in patients with chronic diseases, menstrual irregularities such as primary ovarian failure or polycystic ovary syndrome, teenage pregnancy and congenital abnormalities (differences at birth) of the female reproductive system. In cases of sexual abuse, we also conduct evaluation, including medical legal exams in cases of recent and chronic sexual abuse (age 0-18).

Where the care happens

Adolescent patients are mainly seen in an outpatient setting in the Adolescent Medicine Clinic located in the Gilman Pavillion of The Montreal Children’s Hospital, located at 1040 Atwater St., just steps away from the main hospital building. When The Montreal Children’s Hospital moves to its new location at the Glen site, patients will still be seen on a largely outpatient basis. Eating disorder patients as well as adolescents with other medical issues are and will continue to be hospitalized on the medical and surgical wards. A day hospital within the psychiatry department will be available for Eating Disorder patients at the New MCH.
