Who we are

The Montreal Children’s Hospital’s Craniofacial and Cleft Surgery team is dedicated to the treatment of children with craniofacial disorders (affecting bones of the skull and face). The team meets regularly to plan the complex care of our patients and aims to provide the safest and most up-to-date surgical treatment for children. Families of children born with cleft lip and/or palate can be reassured that their child will be assessed by a dedicated pediatrician.

Our team approach allows The Montreal Children’s Hospital to better manage each patient’s treatment options with the ultimate goal of reducing the number of surgical interventions. The optimal time for the first evaluation is within your child's first few weeks of life.

We offer pre-operative molding (Nasoalveolar Molding or NAM) to patients with clefts; NAM optimizes the aesthetic outcome of the surgical repairs. Our dedicated coordinator efficiently organizes all tests and consultations for our patients (both cleft and craniofacial).

Our history

The H.B. Williams Craniofacial and Cleft Surgery Unit was formed in 2010 by bringing together specialists from many disciplines to form a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals and medical specialists focused on the care of children with complex facial anomalies. Our goal is to provide state-of-the-art care, with a focus on research, innovation and patient and family-centered treatment plans.

Our team

Our multidisciplinary team of 19 specialists includes professionals from plastic surgery, neurosurgery, dentistry, orthodontics, genetics, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, speech language pathology, audiology, pediatrics and respiratory medicine among others.

Our team meets regularly to plan the complex care of our patients and aims to provide the safest and most up-to-date surgical treatment for children. All members are specialized in pediatric care and have an interest in craniofacial anomalies.
