Our mission

The McGill Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment Group is a collaborative team of experts, from various medical and surgical specialties, who strive to provide outstanding, comprehensive and well-coordinated care for complex fetal pathologies, in order to address the needs of both the pregnant mother and baby, before, during and after delivery.

Who we are

The McGill Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment Group consists of a team of specialized experts who have extensive experience with diagnosis of fetal anomalies, counseling, and interventions.

Our services

The FDTG team provides various services, including detailed fetal ultrasounds (2D and 3D), fetal MRI, amniocentesis, fetal blood sampling, and transfusion, as well as more complex fetal interventions such as fetoscopy, placements of fetal bladder and thoracic shunts, ablative procedures, and EXIT procedure (Ex-utero Intrapartum Treatment). Also available are counseling in fetal surgical interventions and genetic counseling, including determining the risk of associated anomalies, and risk of recurrence. The FDTG helps coordinate consultations with specialists and appointments for imaging. Neonatal counseling and perinatal management are also provided for patients.

Collaborative care

The team holds weekly joint meetings by videoconference in order to review diagnoses and discuss care plans. Representatives from each specialty, as well as representatives of participating institutions, such as the McGill University Health Centre, Jewish General Hospital and Saint Mary’s Hospital, offer their expertise.

Our history

Our History

While formalized in 2000, the McGill Fetal Diagnostic and Treatment Group had been in the works since the 1980s by the vision and dedication of members of the Pediatric Surgery, Neonatology, Genetics and Maternal Fetal Medicine departments. This now well established multidisciplinary team works together to provide families with the best care available for diagnosis and treatment of fetal abnormalities.
