The Neonatal Clinic provides assessments and longitudinal follow-up for infants who are at risk of neuro-developmental and medical sequelae associated with specific conditions which occurred during the newborn period. Long term follow-up is offered from discharge from the hospital until entering school, for infants who require comprehensive and interdisciplinary care.
Most patients are referred directly from the Neonatal Intensive Care and Pediatric Intensive Care Units, based on their risk factors. The Neonatal follow-up team also accepts referrals for neonatal developmental assessments from primary care practitioners for infants with specific criteria. The team of pediatricians and nurses plays an important role of coordination of care by collaborating on an ongoing basis with pediatric respiratory, neurological and readaptation specialists within the hospital as well as with community medical, social and rehabilitation services
