Pediatric Consultation Centre (PCC)

The mission of The Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) Pediatric Consultation Centre (PCC) is to provide a consultative service to family physicians and MCH pediatricians who want opinions regarding a wide range of pediatric problems. These problems may include chronic headaches, developmental issues, language delays, recurrent abdominal pain, failure to thrive, gastroesophageal reflux, obesity, school and behavioural problems or any pediatric problem for which a physician wants a second opinion or more intensive investigation. Consultation is by referral only.

Where the care happens

We see patients and their families in the Ambulatory Care Clinic on the second-floor, B wing of the MCH. We also see patients at our Outreach Clinic at the Lakeshore General Hospital, which includes a Consultation Clinic, an Asthma Clinic and an Allergy Clinic. In addition, there is a very specialized clinic for autistic children with medical problems.

Our services

In addition to our general consulting clinics, the PCC also includes specialized clinics such as the Multicultural clinic, which offers general pediatric assessments for refugee and immigrant children. There is also a Residents Continuity Clinic (RCC) where pediatric residents provide ongoing, primary care for a select group of patients under the guidance of PCC pediatricians.

Our team

The Montreal Children’s Hospital Pediatric Consultation Centre is staffed by experienced, general consultant pediatricians.

Teaching

The PCC is a large teaching centre for general pediatrics. We offer teaching in general pediatrics to family resident trainees, dermatology residents, as well as core and elective medical students who are doing their clerkship. Approximately 105 trainees per year do their rotation in the PCC.

Training includes the Residents Continuity Clinic (RCC), which provides residents with experience in continuity of care. The residents who follow these patients and families review cases with the PCC pediatricians.
