Wards
Volunteers visit patients with the goal of providing stimulation and
comfort/company. They read, play and sing with infants, toddlers and school age
children. Other tasks involve rocking babies, providing respite for parents,
talking and playing games with adolescents. To take a few moments to wash dirty
toys at the end of the shift.

"Wait for me, I'm playing" program
Volunteers provide children with opportunities to learn and discover through
play in a waiting room setting. This gives support to families and helps
alleviate stress associated with coming to the hospital.

"Help me find my way in Emergency"
Greet families as patients enter the Emergency Department and help control
patient flow by directing the parents and patients to the appropriate
destination. To be comfortable in a busy environment; be comfortable to stand
and walk for long periods.

Emergency program
A program that aims to bring comfort to stressful and unplanned hospital visits.
A smile, a presence that says we care. Books, pencils and play materials are
provided to help move time along.

Physiotherapy
To entertain siblings, to welcome patients, wash toys, assist with data entry
and general office work. Volunteers also assist physiotherapists with
treatment. (non medical role)

Day surgery
To escort families to the operating room, to provide comfort and support to
parents while their child is undergoing surgery. To play with the children in
the waiting area before their surgery.

Terrace program (summer only)
Assisting Child Life Specialists with organised activities and free play for
ward patients in a summer program on our outdoor terrace.

Hematology-oncology and hemodialysis clinics
Along with the Child Life Specialist, to use play with the children so that they
can experiment positive moments at the hospital. The volunteer can encourage
the children to play together or by themselves according to their needs. The
volunteer also helps to keep the play areas tidy and welcoming. The respect of
confidentiality is a priority, since these are open areas.

Clerical
Assisting administrative staff with clerical work, computer, filing, t at
special events. telephone etc.

The MCH foundation
The Foundation's mandate is to raise much- needed funds for the Hospital
To assist with clerical tasks, and thank you calls to donors. Opportunities to
help out at fundraising events.

The playroom of the medical units
To help the Child Life Specialists to bring the children to the playrooms. To
assist them to organize the activities and to participate by supporting the
children with their projects and to acknowledge their efforts.

Projet Imagine : Lire
To read books to children to promote literacy in waiting rooms. To assist with
maintaining waiting room areas/ libraries. To encourage children & families
to choose a book to read together. To initiate other literacy activities as
needed: coloring/crafts

Training and supervision will be provided the program coordinator.

Ability to read in at least English & French: other languages a bonus.

Willingness to approach children/families in public areas.

Ability to work with children of different ages in a group setting.

Open to working with diverse cultures.

Good communication skills.
