Child Life Services at The Montreal Children's Hospital has a long tradition of working with patients and families dating back to 1936. The Children's was one of the first pediatric institutions in North America to open a child life department and over the years, the services available to patients and families have changed dramatically.

Today, our Child Life specialists use play, education and self-expression to promote the psychological well-being and development of infants, children, and adolescents, and through this, provide support to their families as well.

School Services
Schooling is offered for both elementary and secondary pupils who are hospitalized at the MCH.

 

The Family Resource Library at The Montreal Children’s Hospital is a place where families can find health information about children’s medical conditions, parenting and pain management.

The program offers patients a chance to interact with dogs who have been certified by Zoothérapie Québec in order to help counteract the stressful experiences often associated with hospitalization.

 

Therapeutic clowns are unique characters dressed up as doctors that work in close collaboration with hospital staff. They contribute to children's development and quality of life while they are staying at the Montreal Children's Hospital.
