Services offered

The Montreal Children’s Hosital Craniofacial and Cleft Surgery Team is dedicated to the treatment of children with craniofacial deformities. State-of-the-art treatment and surgical planning is provided by a multidisciplinary team of 19 specialists including representatives from plastic surgery, neurosurgery, dentistry, orthodontics, genetics, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, speech pathology, audiology, pediatrics and respiratory medicine among others. The team meets regularly to plan the complex care of our patients and aims to provide the safest and most up-to-date surgical treatment for your child.

For those children born with cleft lip and/or palates, families can be reassured that they will be assessed by a dedicated pediatrician, Dr. Diane Munz, and specialized orthodontist, Dr. Broula Jamal. Together with our pediatric plastic surgeon(s), Dr. Jamal can offer patients with clefts pre-operative molding (Nasoalveolar Molding or NAM), which optimizes the esthetic outcome of the surgical repairs. In addition, all patients (both cleft and craniofacial) have their tests and consultations conveniently and efficiently organized by our dedicated coordinator.

Our team approach allows The Montreal Children’s Hospital to better manage each patient’s treatment options with the ultimate goal of reducing the number of surgical interventions. The optimal time for the first evaluation is within your child's first few weeks of life.

The Craniofacial Surgery Program treats children with the following:
  •  Cleft lip and/or palate (primary and secondary deformity correction)
  • Craniosynostosis (and other skull shape anomalies)
  • Pierre-Robin sequence and congenital jaw deformities
  • Craniofacial Syndromes (Treacher-Collins, Apert, Crouzon, Pfeiffer Syndromes)
  • Facial Clefts
  • Deformational plagiocephaly
  • Hemifacial microsomia
  • Post-traumatic craniofacial deformities
For more information or to refer a patient to the Craniofacial Surgery Program at The Montreal Children’s Hospital call: 514.934.1934, extension 22517.
