Stephen Harper visits Montreal General Hospital, announces new national cancer initiative

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today revealed his government’s new plan to develop a national cancer initiative, the Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control. An investment of $260 million is expected over five years.

This money will be used to create a new pan-Canadian agency that will have the mandate to find a new strategy for the fight against cancer. The agency's goals will be to improve detection and prevention efforts and to ensure access to treatment for people who have been diagnosed with cancer.

Prime Minister Harper made the announcement after a visit to the Oncology Department at the Montreal General Hospital of the MUHC
