Departments

The Montreal Children’s Hospital established one of the first Child Life Departments in North America in 1936.

Brain, Development and Behaviour (BDB) is an integrated clinical network providing assessment and consultative services for children with complex developmental disabilities. In order to correctly and expeditiously orient these children to the appropriate services within the hospital, all referrals from community physicians for developmental concerns are received and systematically triaged by our BDB Centralized Intake team.

Brain, Development and Behaviour (BDB) is an integrated clinical network providing assessment and consultative services for children 0-17 years old with complex developmental disabilities requiring a multidisciplinary approach, including but not exhaustively:

The main role of the Audiology Department of the Montreal Children’s hospital is to evaluate hearing, and support children with hearing loss and their families. Hearing is always evaluated in the context of communication development and global development of the child.

We evaluate children from 0 to 18 years of age. They are referred to us for various reasons, such as parental concern, having failed a hearing screening, presenting a language or developmental delay, having ear infections or to monitor the hearing in view of a medical issue.

The Montreal Children’s Hospital’s Asthma Centre is dedicated to treating pediatric asthma in children aged 1 to 18 years old. We also treat many patients with recurrent viral wheezing, which is typical in toddlers and preschoolers.

Our department provides anesthesia services to patients in the OR, diagnostic imaging, interventional radiology, gastroenterology, cardiac catheterization, hematology-oncology and respirology, and provides anesthesia service to the Shriners Hospital for Children, Quebec. An Anesthesia Consultation Service is available for patients with certain conditions (e.g. asthma) who should be seen prior to their surgery date.
The Division of Allergy and Clinical Immunology at the MCH is the largest pediatric allergy practice in Canada.
