Who we are

The Montreal Children’s Hospital has long recognized and responded to the needs of abused and neglected children. Today, our Child Protection Program works with the hospital’s Department of Social Services and the Division of Adolescent Medicine/Gynecology to provide services to children and adolescents. The Child Protection Committee is made up of professionals from several areas and provides consultative case reviews.

Our history

A Child Protection Committee, initially called the Battered Baby Committee, has been in operation at The Montreal Children’s Hospital since the 1960s. Since that time, clinical services have been established and expanded to evaluate and care for children and youth who are victims of maltreatment.

Our team

Our team includes general pediatric and adolescent medicine specialists, child psychiatrists, members of pastoral services, and social workers. The collective experience of our team members is very broad and extensive. Some members have specialized training and/or certification in child maltreatment.
