The Neonatal Transport Team is composed of specially trained nurses and respiratory therapists working under the direction of our neonatologists. During the first call, an initial evaluation is done and recommendations are given to the referring physician. The dedicated transport team is then mobilized; they carry state-of-the-art equipment and all required medications to support the care of unstable neonates. For the neonates who have suffered perinatal asphyxia, the team also offers the Total Body Cooling to lessen brain injury.
In response to a growing number of requests for advice from referring centres, the Outreach Teaching Program was created to support medical, nursing and respiratory therapy staff. Activities include consultation for the care of unstable neonates, on-site teaching, case discussion and conferences on congenital heat disease, respiratory distress, etc.
