The MCH Respiratory Medicine team has expertise treating a range of respiratory conditions that affect a child’s breathing and related breathing functions such as lung diseases, asthma, pulmonary and circulatory problems, sleep disorders, acute and chronic respiratory problems and other types of infections.
We work closely with the hospital’s Respiratory Therapy department to provide the best possible ongoing care and treatment to our patients. Our multidisciplinary team offers a variety of specialized diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients.
We provide a number of services including medical management of respiratory problems, medical therapies, oxygen support, and education to parents on how best to care for their children. We offer long-term care and support when necessary, and see patients in outpatient clinics for evaluation and treatment of various respiratory conditions, as well as patients who are admitted to hospital (inpatients) for evaluation and treatment of various respiratory diseases, sleep disorders and apnea evaluation and treatments.
We also have rehabilitation programs and training programs in cystic fibrosis, bronchopulmonary dysplasia and neuromuscular conditions for children and their parents.
Our dedicated team of doctors, nurses and therapists works together to develop short- to long-term treatment plans for patients suffering from mild to complex respiratory problems:
- Complex Airway Group
- Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia Clinic
- Encounter-based CF (cystic fibrosis) database
- CF-ORL (cystic fibrosis – otolaryngology) Group
- Asthma Group
- Complicated Asthma Clinic
- Genetic Respiratory Group
In addition to working with patients who have respiratory disease, our respiratory physicians work closely with other departments in the fields of nephrology, cardiology, and physiotherapy. Our new Ciliary Dyskinesia (CD) clinic – joining a network of CD clinics – will be the first of its kind in Quebec.
