Dr. Dallaire

Dr. Frederic Dallaire is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Université de Sherbrooke, a pediatric cardiologist at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Sherbrooke, and a clinical research scholar at the Centre de Recherche du CHUS, in Sherbrooke, Canada. He is the head of research at the department of pediatrics, and the director of mother and child research at the Centre de recherche du CHUS. He holds a PhD in epidemiology and an MD from Laval University (Quebec City, Canada). He trained in pediatric cardiology at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Québec (Quebec City, Canada) and at the Hospital for Sick Children (Toronto, Canada). 

Dr. Dallaire is committed to the identification of early markers of adverse events to enhance risk stratification of children born with congenital heart diseases. His main areas of research are: 1) the identification of early risk factors in children with repaired tetralogy of Fallot, 2) the assessment of the performance of prenatal congenital heart disease screening, and 3) the definition of pediatric reference values in echocardiography and cardiopulmonary exercise testing. He is the founder and scientific director of the Canadian Pediatric Cardiology Research Network and the scientific director of the Canadian Pediatric Cardiology Association. 
 

Dr. Cavallé-Garrido

Dr. Cavallé is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at McGill University and a pediatric cardiologist at the Montréal Children’s Hospital, McGill University Health Centre. She is the Director of the Pediatric Cardiology Residency Program and Co-Director of the Advanced Non-Invasive Pediatric Cardiac Imaging fellowship. She is the Director of the Echocardiography Laboratory and the Fetal Cardiac Program. She is the founder of the pediatric aortopathy clinic at the Montréal Children’s Hospital. She holds an MD for the University of Valencia, Spain. She holds dual certification in Pediatrics and Pediatric cardiology both at the University of Valencia, Spain, and the University of Toronto, Canada. 

Her areas of interest include echocardiography, fetal cardiology, hereditary aortopathies and residency education.

  • Review the differential diagnosis of critical congenital heart disease based on fetal echocardiographic findings 
  • Describe the fetal cardiac interventions currently available in clinical practice 
  • Demonstrate the advantages of a prenatal diagnosis of critical congenital heart disease  
  • Describe the factors affecting the current detection rates of prenatal diagnosis of critical congenital heart disease 
  • Describe the current prenatal CHD screening approach in Canada 
  • Discuss potential pitfalls and their impact on resource utilization 
  • Present the path forward to increase detection rate
