The Women’s Health Mission will be located next to the Birthing Centre, Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Post-partum Unit
Many people are already familiar with the stresses that come with childbirth; even the smoothest deliveries can be fraught with fatigue and worry. But imagine the stress associated with a high-risk birth, where mother and child may need to be separated in order to receive specialized care at different hospitals.
Until recently, this was the reality for some parents, but the McGill University Health Centre’s (MUHC) Glen Campus represents a new dawn—it will be the fi rst hospital in
to combine adult and paediatric specialties on the same site. Quebec
“The Women’s Health Mission will be located next to the Birthing Centre, Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Post-partum Unit, providing the perfect environment for women and their babies,” says Dr. Robert Gagnon, Director of Obstetrics and Maternal Foetal Medicine at the MUHC. “This is very important, because the close proximity of newborns to their parent can reduce stress and promote healing.”
The Glen Campus will also make a big difference for staff and physicians, who will be able to communicate more easily and more often under the same roof, as well as be physically present when the need arises.
Health care at the new Glen Campus will be truly holistic—considering both the physical and emotional well-being of patients—to ensure that parents and their children start their new lives as a family both healthy and together.
