Fraser Institute : Quebec healthcare expenditures are less than in other provinces

A report published October 2 by the Fraser Institute confirms that Quebec’s healthcare system is in a much better position for the future than other provinces.

According to the study, in 2020, provincial expenses in healthcare will represent 50 percent of revenue from all sources. If this trend continues, in 2050, six out of 10 provinces will see all revenues being spent on health care.

Quebec is the only province that is not part of this trend. The study states that in 50 years, 50 percent of provincial revenues will be allocated towards the healthcare system. Provinces like Saskatchewan and Manitoba will attain this percentage in 10 years.

This may be explained by the fact that Quebec has tighter control on its healthcare expenditures. A greater use of private health services and prescription drugs could also be factors.
