Important information for patients and families about The Children’s Clinic
Frequently Asked Questions:
The Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) is responding to directives from the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux to divert less complex patients to external clinics in the community. Many MCH physicians will now be seeing part of their patient population in The Children’s Clinic.
1. Where is the new clinic located? Is it part of the McGill University Health Centre?
The Children’s Clinic is located across the street from the Glen site at 5100 de Maisonneuve on the 2nd floor. The clinic’s main phone number is 514-228-4444. It is directly beside the Vendôme métro and commuter train stations and there is also parking available on-site. The new facility is completely independent of the McGill University Health Centre and is run by the Brunswick Medical Group, which provides the administrative and organizational framework, including appointment bookings.
2. What services will the new clinic offer?
For now, services such as Allergy, Dermatology, Endocrinology, General Pediatrics, Nephrology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Rheumatology, and Urology will be treating their less complex patients at the new Children’s Clinic. Other services might be available in the future.
3. Occasionally, we have to go to Emergency with my daughter. What will we do now?
You can continue to come to the MCH Emergency department when necessary even if your daughter does not come to the MCH for her clinic appointments. There will also be an Urgent Care/Walk-In clinic at The Children’s Clinic which will help reduce the high volumes and long wait times in the MCH Emergency, especially during peak periods such as cold and flu season.
4. Will I have to pay for my child to see a pediatrician at the new clinic?
No, you will not have to pay to see a pediatrician at the new clinic as long as your child has a valid medicare (Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec) card.
The Children’s Clinic does charge a fee for certain tests or procedures, but you will be notified about this before your appointment. If lab work or Medical Imaging is required, the Montreal Children’s Hospital will provide these services free of charge. The Children’s Clinic also houses a private laboratory for rapid results, but you are not obliged to use this service.
5. Where will my next appointment take place?
For new referrals, The Children’s Clinic will contact parents about their child’s first appointment. For follow-up appointments being transferred from the MCH to The Children’s Clinic, MCH physicians will inform patients and families about the new clinic. Each service will determine where patients will be seen, either at the hospital, The Children’s Clinic or elsewhere.
