The Marcelle and Jean Coutu Foundation invests $ 3 million

Montreal, November 10, 2008 - The Marcelle and Jean Coutu Foundation recently confirmed its support for the construction of the new Montreal Children’s Hospital with a generous donation of $3 million to The Best Care for Children campaign. This amount will be dedicated to the new hospital’s pediatric laboratories which will be named in honour of Marcelle and Jean Coutu.

The support of such a well-known family of entrepreneurs, whose incredible success story is the pride of Quebec, is extremely important for our Hospital. The Children’s, also a homegrown success story, has generated numerous medical breakthroughs in Quebec, and contributed to the recovery of hundreds of thousands of children since its founding in 1903.

“The new Children’s will reflect everything that we have accomplished over the years, and more, because its facilities will allow us to provide the very best care modern medicine can offer. Thanks to the Marcelle and Jean Coutu Foundation, our technicians will benefit from laboratories equipped with cutting edge technology,” explains Louise Dery-Goldberg, President of The Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Plans to build the new Montreal Children’s Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre were given the green light by Quebec Minister of Health and Social Services Dr. Yves Bolduc on October 15, 2008. The construction of the new Children’s is scheduled to begin at the end of 2009, on the Glen site.
