Province prepares measles blitz

Quebec's public health department is preparing a big in-school vaccination blitz for measles.  There have been more than 750 cases of measles in the province in recent months, most of them off-Island.

School boards and private schools have been sent a letter outlining a catch-up inoculation program to start next month.  The goal is to reach the ten to fifteen percent of children who did not receive the measles vaccine during their early years.

The Lester B. Pearson School Board chair Sueann Stein Day confirms her board has received the letter from the public health department but it doesn't yet have any details about the in-school vaccinations.

Measles is highly contagious and causes severe complications in one case out of a thousand
