Trauma Specialists Promote Helmet Use at Mont Blanc this weekend

On Saturday February 26th, Trauma Specialists from The Montreal Children’s Hospital will be at Mont Blanc ski resort in Mont Tremblant. More importantly, however, they will be promoting helmet use and spreading awareness about head injuries by talking to skiers and snowboarders.

The event is organized in partnership with the Association of ski resorts in Quebec, which will hold activities in nearly 30 ski resorts to promote helmet use. Members from the trauma center programmes at the Montreal General Hospital, l’Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur de Montréal, The Montreal Children's Hospital and the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Sherbrooke will take part in promoting this event for the second year in a row.

Every year, The Montreal Children’s Hospital Emergency Department sees over 15,000 children and adolescents who have sustained a traumatic injury. Injuries sustained range from minor to fatal. Upwards of 500 of them are serious enough to require hospitalization and the interventions of the trauma specialists from 30 different departments.

Helmets alone cannot prevent all injuries. Skiers, boarders and sledders should always be aware of their surroundings and practice sports in a manner compliant with their level of experience.
