The Director of the Psychiatry Department awarded the Career Scientist Award of Excellence 2006 by the Foundation for Research into Children’s Diseases

It is with pleasure that I inform you that Dr. Eric Fombonne, Director of the Psychiatry Department at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, has been awarded the Career Scientist Award of Excellence 2006 by the Foundation for Research into Children’s Diseases in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of child health research.

This award will be officially presented at the Foundation’s “Bal des enfants du monde” on October 19, 2006 at the Fairmont-Queen Elizabeth Hotel. We hope that many of you will join us in honoring Dr. Fombonne at this time.

Dr. Fombonne has been a scientist at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and has held a Canada Research Chair in Child Psychiatry at McGill since 2001, where he conducts an internationally recognized research program on Autism Spectrum Disorders. Dr. Fombonne has played a major role in establishing the Autism Spectrum Disorders Clinic at the MCH and developed a program contributing to improved measures of diagnosis, assessment and tools for the early detection of autism, as well as knowledge of its etiology. His recent research, which has examined the postulated links between vaccinations and autism, has helped to maintain public confidence in child immunization programs.
