The victim was riding on a skateboard in the bike lane heading west down Rachel St, said Montreal police Constable Anie Lemieux. He was struck by the bus, which was also moving west down Rachel, as it turned north onto Frontenac.

 

Firefighters were the first to arrive at the scene, and they called for a crew that had experience in heavy equipment rescue.

 

The emergency crews used hydraulic jaws to move the bus away from the victim, however their efforts were in vain and the young male died at the scene.

 

Several people aboard the bus were treated for shock.

The Emergency Department of The Montreal Children’s Hospital Trauma Centre sees more than 1000 patients each year for road related trauma. This includes: over 350 children and teens involved in motor vehicle collisions and more than 700 patients who sustain injuries that are related to falls and crashes while cycling, rollerblading and skateboarding.
