Apart from always sticking to marked trails before operating a snowmobile on any body of water, it's imperative to make certain the ice is sufficiently frozen and thick enough to support the vehicle's weight.
Wear a helmet. It's mandatory - no mater where you operate.
Wear clothing that is designed specifically for snowmobiling.
The speed limit for a snowmobile is 70 kilometres per hour, unless otherwise indicated, and reduced to 30 kilometres an hour in residential areas and close to dwellings.
In general, it is illegal to ride within 30 metres of a dwelling, a health establishment or an area reserved for cultural, educational or sports activities.
Bring a basic survival kit, tools and replacement parts.
Cellular telephones are not always reliable outside urban areas. Carry a topographic map and a GPS receiver to help find your way in the woods.
Never ride alone and always inform someone of where you are going and when you expect to return.
Respect trail signage and co-operate with voluntary trail safety officers.
