Tune in December 6 and 7 Watch the
32nd Annual Telethon of Stars, broadcast live for 27 hours of programming on December 6 and 7 on CTV-Montreal and TQS. The telethon, which raises funds for research into children’s diseases, raised a record $5,152,242 last year.
The Montreal Children’s Hospital is one of the four leading Quebec-based hospital research centers to receive funding thanks to the Telethon.
A variety of MCH health professionals will be spotlighted on this year’s show including orthopedic surgeon Dr. François Fassier, who treats the symptoms of Morquio Syndrome, and geneticist Dr. Serge Melançon who will be launching a new study to help children coping with this rare syndrome. Hematologist/oncologists Drs. Sharon Abish and David Mitchell will discuss the challenges of dealing with rare forms of cancer and urologist Dr. Giampaolo Capoliccio will share the importance of early, even prenatal intervention to prevent serious kidney damage. Many more healthcare professionals, children and families from almost every sector of the hospital - from NICU to telemetry, rheumatology to respiratory medicine – graciously share their experiences and stories on camera to give the public a glimpse of the great work that is done at the MCH. Hospital spokesperson Shilvi will also appear on the TQS Telethon.
The Telethon of Stars, formerly the Telethon for Research into Children's Diseases, has become the largest source of non-governmental funding for children's health research in Quebec, having already distributed $53,114,000 since 1977.
