Our history

Otolaryngology services have been provided at the Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) for many decades but it was only in 1976 when Dr. Melvin Schloss was appointed the first geographic full-time university-based director of Otolaryngology at the MCH that the first physical department of otolaryngology was established, opening its offices in the A wing of the MCH on Deacrie Street. The offices are still located in this area and more than 13,000 patients are seen each year.
